Dear President Obama,


　　　All of a sudden, we were informed by an appalling article in a Japanese mainstream newspaper on Aug.15th that there was a possibility of Israel attacking a nuclear power plant in Iran, even before Aug.21st .　　

　　　Such an act of war would be formidable and could never be tolerated, especially to us in Japan, the only country in the world which experienced nuclear holocausts 65 years ago. We can assume from those experiences, direct or indirect, that civilian damages would be unfathomable in such an attack onto a nuclear power plant.

　　The world has witnessed the unjustifiable wars against Afghanistan and Iraq by some western countries. We cannot bear to see more war in Asia.

　　We urge you to prevent Israel from attacking people in Iran and to find diplomatic solutions along with Israel.

　　8月15日付けの日本の主要紙に掲載された驚くべき記事により、イスラエルがイランの原発を8月21以前にも攻撃する可能性もあると、私たちは突然にして知りました。

　　そのような戦争の行為は恐るべきもので、決して容認できません、特に世界で唯一、核の大惨事を65年前に経験した日本にいる私たちにとってはそうです. 　その直接・間接的な経験から、原発へのそのような攻撃があれば市民の被害が計り知れないものになると私たちには憶測できます。

　　一部の西欧諸国によってアフガニスタンとイラクに対して言われのない戦争が行われてきているのを、世界は見てきました。　私たちはアジアで新たな戦争を見ることに耐えられません。イスラエルがイランの人々を攻撃することを阻止し、またイスラエルとともに外交的解決方法を探すよう、大統領に要請します。

1.   Does the U.S. have a right to launch wars of aggression without provocation,in defiance of international law and an international consensus, simply on the basis　of its own suspicions about another country’s future intentions?

　米国は、他国の今後の意図についての自分自身の疑惑という根拠にのみ依拠し、国際法や国民の総意を無視して、相手国からの挑発もないのに、侵略戦争を行う権利を有するのか？

2.    Even if Iran were to acquire the means to build a nuclear weapon, would that bea legitimate or prudent reason for launching a war?

　仮にイランが核兵器をつくる方法を獲得するとしても、そのことが戦争を開始するための正当で分別ある理由になるのか？
　
3.    Is Iran actually developing nuclear weapons?

　イランは実際に、核兵器を開発しているのか？
